ONLINE: Directing Intensive

This 5-day online course in November, led by Katie Mitchell, offers an intensive exploration of theatre directing, based on her own approach and methods.

The course will introduce the essential skills for theatre directing and offer pathways for skill development. It will explore the timeline of making a production focusing in on simple tools for analysing a text and building a concept, plus strategies for running rehearsals from the first day until the last night.

Participants will be guided through a structured approach to text analysis, covering research, character development, circumstances and events, and conceptualisation. Katie will also address practical directing skills throughout the course, including casting, rehearsal preparation, and working with actors.

The workshop is designed for directors looking to refine their craft, as well as experienced actors who work as directors or aspire to do so. The course will be invaluable for both start-up directors and mid-career practitioners wishing to brush up their techniques or for actors wanting to cross over into directing.
